Worst book I purchased in long time from Amazon. I am returning it. As a beginner that has been dabbling with Filemaker since 12, but have been digging as deeply as possible over the last year I have to say that this is a great shot sheet of quick, well-thought insights from an industry expert in a very easy to read manner.
I have read a lot of FileMaker manuals and "How To" books. What makes this book different is information on the proper way to use FileMaker. This book puts Filemaker features in a context. There is information on proper design. If you want to shorten the learning curve to a successful application this is the book you should buy. Brought to light concepts and strategies to use during the construction of the relational database. Very useful, worth the price.

I decided to pick up a hard copy of this book because it seemed to match where I was at from an experience-level standpoint.
The book is a nice of blend of technical concepts, e. Richard has likely saved me countless hours of tedious work, I look forward to continuing my work in FileMaker and expect to one day become a "FileMaker Jedi. I bought this book figuring the title was an accurate discription of the contents.

But , for me, the worst aspect is the terrible photos. These are reminiscent of 's newspaper photos, where the picture is made up of very coarse dots legible, but not very clear. It is a series of chapters that tell you the do's and don'ts when you design your database. Basically as another reviewer said if you wish to learn how to programme Filemaker the book promotes the Author's tutorials that you will need to additionally purchase. This is not to say there is nothing interesting and informative in the book, but it was not what I thought I was buying. One person found this helpful. This manual is for those used to versions of FileMaker up to 16 who are using FM 17 for the first time.
It shows changes compared to the previous versions and how to avoid serious mistakes. Pay attention to the "FileMaker 17" in the title to avoid being mislead. I cannot judge the content manual, but, seen all the warnings the text contains, I presume it is quite good.
